Slate VSX

Being able to hear what you're doing is extremely critical. In the past, you would need room treatment and very accurate monitors. Monitors meaning speakers. But, Slate VSX is changing all that.

What you have here is a custom made headphone combined with a plug-in that lets the headphone system serve as a very credible monitor substitute. It has many different environments and speaker setups you can test your work on.

For us, this resulted in mixes that translated really well while taking much less time. You'll end up adjusting your plug-in chains and getting to a point where you don't even really need to test your work on your speakers.

Right now, we can even get away with using only the mid-field option in Steven's room to get a great mix or master. That's probably the option with the most transparent sound. It's good to check your work on the other VSX setups. If it sounds good on each one, you have something that's going to work well.

Steven has said more rooms and environments are coming in future updates too, so the potential is there to revolutionize things further.

VSX also really helps with tracking. You'll be able to record vocals over dense music much, much easier. That's been our experience. The plug-in works well with other headphones like the AKG K550 for this purpose.

VSX should be the first item on any beginner's shopping list.
